During one of our seminars, a woman asked a common question. She said, “How do I know if I am with the right person?”
I noticed that there was a large man sitting next to her so I said, “It depends. Is that your boyfrien/husband?” In all seriousness, she answered “How do you know?”
Let me answer this question because the chances are good that it’s weighing on your mind.
Here’s the answer.
EVERY relationship has a cycle. In the beginning, you fell in love with your spouse. You anticipated their call, wanted their touch, and liked their idiosyncrasies.
Falling in love with your significant other wasn’t hard. In fact, it was a completely natural and spontaneous experience. You didn’t have to DO anything. That’s why it’s called “falling” in love…
Because it’s happening TO YOU.
People in love sometimes say, “I was swept off my feet.” Think about the imagery of that expression. It implies that you were just standing there; doing nothing, and then something came along and happened TO YOU.
Falling is love is easy. It’s a passive and spontaneous experience. But after a few years of a relationship, the euphoria of love fades. It’s the natural cycle of EVERY relationship. Slowly but surely, phone calls
become a bother (if they come at all), touch is not always welcome (when it happens), and your significant other’s idiosyncrasies, instead of being cute, drive you nuts.
The symptoms of this stage vary with every relationship, but if you think about your relationship, you will notice a dramatic difference between the initial stage when you were in love and a much duller or even angry subsequent stage.
At this point, you and/or your significant other might start asking, “Am I with the right person?” And as you and your significant other reflect on the euphoria of the love you once had, you may begin to desire that experience with someone else. This is when relationships breakdown. People blame their significant others for their unhappiness and look outside their relationship for fulfillment.
Extramarital fulfillment comes in all shapes and sizes. Infidelity is the most obvious. But sometimes people turn to work,a hobby, a friendship, excessive TV, or abusive substances.
But the answer to this dilemma does NOT lie outside your relationship. It lies within it. I’m not saying that you couldn’t fall in love with someone else. You could.
And TEMPORARILY you’d feel better. But you’d be in the same situation a few years later. Because (listen carefully to this):
THE KEY TO SUCCEEDING IN RELATIONSHIP IS NOT FINDING THE RIGHT PERSON; IT’S LEARNING TO LOVE THE PERSON YOU FOUND.
SUSTAINING love is not a passive or spontaneous experience. It’ll NEVER just happen to you. You can’t “find” LASTING love. You have to “make” it day in and day out. That’s why we have the expression “the labor of love.”

"The 30 Most Satisfying Simple Pleasures Life has to Offer"
1. Sleeping In on a Rainy Day – As the rain beats lightly against the window, you nestle your head deeper into your pillow. The sound is soothing and your bed feels like a sanctuary. There is no place you would rather be.
2. Finding Money You Didn’t Know You Had – You reach into your pocket and find a $20 bill from the last time you wore these jeans. You aren’t rich, but you are richer than you were a second earlier.
3. Making Brief Eye Contact with Someone of the Opposite Sex – You pass her on the street or in the subway. She glances up at you momentarily, making direct eye contact in a way that seems to communicate a subtle curiosity. For a split second it makes you think… and then it’s gone.
4. Skinny Dipping – There is something mysteriously liberating about being naked in a body of water. You are naked, but it feels natural, a sense of unrefined freedom.
5. Receiving a Real Letter or Package via Snail Mail – E-mail has become the primary source of written communication. Most snail mail these days is junk mail. When you check the mail and find a real letter or package from someone you know, excitement overtakes you as you tear into this rare gift.
6. Making the Yellow Light - It’s one of the most common simple pleasures, the act of beating the pack. As you blaze through the yellow light you glance in your rearview to see all the cars behind you stopping at the red light. Yes! You made it!
7. Telling a Funny or Interesting, True Story - One of the most enticing roles you lead in life is that of the storyteller. You love to share stories, especially those that will captivate your audience with deep curiosity and humor. There are few things more satisfying than telling a true story that others enjoy listening to.
8. Seeing a Friend Stumble Over Himself – As you walk across the street with your friend, he fails to accurately address the curb on the other side. He trips and stumbles around momentarily before regaining his footing, then swiftly attempts to play it off like nothing happened. This can be a hilarious sight if the moment is right.
9. Hearing the Right Song at the Right Moment - It doesn’t matter what the setting is, hearing the right song for that moment is one of those simple pleasures in life that instantly lifts your spirits. You could be driving home from work, hanging out at a bar with friends, or jogging. When the right song rattles your ear drums the entire meaning of life seems crystal clear.
10. The First Sip of a Beverage When You’re Thirsty – You just finished mowing the lawn or taking a long jog. The only thing on your mind is an ice-cold glass of water. When you are really, really thirsty, that first sip of any liquid beverage is sheer bliss.
11. Catching a Glimpse of Bare Skin on the Opposite Sex – For guys, it’s when the waitress bends over a little too far. For girls it’s seeing that buff guy in a Speedo. Either way, when you see a bit more skin than you were expecting on the opposite sex, you can’t help but to smirk on the inside.
12. Saying the Same Thing Simultaneously – There is a moment of silence. Then all of the sudden you and your friend blurt out the same exact set of words simultaneously. This rare occurrence is something to smile about.
13. The Pull-Through Parking Spot – You pull into a parking spot and are delighted to see the availability of the parking spot immediately in front of you. You pull through to the spot in front so that when you return to the car you can drive forward out of the parking spot. Why? Because driving backwards is a pain in the butt.
14. Realizing You Have More Time to Sleep – Something abruptly awakens you and you think it’s time to get up. Then you squint over at your alarm clock and realize you still have 2 more hours to sleep. A warm euphoric feeling shoots though your body as you glide gracefully back to your dreams.
15. People Watching – Sitting there on your bench you can see people in every direction. Tall people, small people, thin and plump. Blond, brunette, and redhead alike. Each of them has a different stride and a unique expression. As you drift from body to body you are mesmerized by what you see.
16. Putting On Clothes Straight from the Dryer – As soon as the dryer buzzes, you pull out your clothes and put them on. They feel soothingly warm on your skin and emit a fresh-scented aroma into the air. A sentiment of ease comes over you as you head out to conquer the day.
17. A Familiar Smell – You just pulled into your parent’s driveway and opened the car door. You haven’t been home in a long while. You smell familiarity in the air, the scent of a large pine tree in the neighbor’s yard. As you head through the front door, more familiar smells consume your senses. Gosh, it feels good to be home…
18. The Feeling You Get When Your Idea Works – You have been struggling to resolve a complex problem all day and you just can’t seem to get it right. Filled with frustration, you decide to exercise one last idea before calling it a night. You’ve had many ideas before that failed miserably… but this time it works.
19. Fresh, Clean Bed Sheets – You yank at the corner of the bedspread to create just enough space to slide your body under the freshly cleaned sheets. The sheets feel cool to the touch. Everything seems so clean, like nobody has ever slept in this bed before.
20. A Beautiful View – As the car veers around the side of the mountain you gaze out the passenger window. It’s a clear, sunny day and you can see the entire valley below filled with wild flowers and bright green vegetation. The scenery reminds you of something you once saw in National Geographic. But here it is live, right before your eyes.
21. Reminiscing About Old Times with Your Closest Friends – Pink Floyd once said “the memories of a man in his old age are the deeds of a man in his prime”. There is no simple pleasure more satisfying than recounting the greatest moments of your life with your closest friends who lived these moments alongside you.
22. Receiving an Unexpected Compliment – It’s been an average day. Nothing really great has happened, but nothing terrible occurred either. This monotonous day has put you in a dreary mood. Unexpectedly, an older, attractive lady taps you on the shoulder, calls you “handsome” and says she loves your shirt. The day just got a whole lot better.
23. Having a Good Laugh – Laughter is the greatest cure of all. Life is extraordinary in the moments when you are laughing so hard you can barely breathe. These moments of deep laughter are divine in the sense that they cleanse your mood and set your mind on a positive track.
24. The Feeling After a Healthy Workout - It’s a giddy feeling of self accomplishment; the one true activity that actually makes you feel better and look better simultaneously. When you walk out the front door of the gym you are on top of the world.
25. The Celebration in the Instant Something Makes Sense – Even now that it has explained to you for the third time, you just don’t understand how it works. Everyone else seems to understand but you. Then out of the blue the dots connect in your mind. You finally get it, and it feels great!
26. Relaxing Outdoors on a Sunny Day – As you relax sprawled out in a lawn chair, the sun warms your skin and a light breeze keeps the temperature comfortable. Birds are chirping merrily in the trees behind you. You are at complete peace with the environment.
27. Holding Hands with Someone You Love – Every time she grabs your hand you are overcome with an awareness of how much she means to you. Holding hands is sensual and physically intimate, yet subtle. There are few people you allow to hold your hand, so when it happens you can be sure that the moment is special.
28. Playing in the Water – Water marvels people of all ages. From jumping in puddles as a child, to doing cannon balls in the pool as an adolescent, to enjoying a cocktail in the Jacuzzi as an adult… water is enjoyable.
29. Making Someone Smile – You notice that your colleague has been under a great deal of stress with meeting a deadline, so you take it upon yourself to complete one of her indirect responsibilities for her. As soon as she realizes what you did, she comes into your office with a big smile on her face. “Thank you”, she says. You just hit two birds with one stone, because making her smile just made your day.
30. Finishing What You Started – You just finished up a big project you’ve been working on for the last few months, or maybe you just finished your first marathon… Either way, you finalized what you set out to accomplish. The feeling of self accomplishment you get when you finish what you started is by far one of the most rewarding simple pleasures life has to offer.
For a split second it makes you think… and then it’s gone.

what you don't appreciate, someone else will reciprocate
so i know i haven't blogged in a long ass while, but this is worth me posting. AMEN to the sistaa that wrote this that i just had to re-blog.
"Alright guys, it's time for me to do some schooling. There is a HUGE problem going on in the world today. Today's generation is good at getting laid, not romanticizing and falling in love. Taking advantage of circumstance and not paying attention to consequence, we go around playing each other and not really appreciating what our significant other does for us, and sorry GUYS but its mostly you. Now dont go jumping on me saying i'm attacking you when i'm not; some of us are lucky to have pretty decent guys. but not everyone, and thats why im writing this.
this is for the ride or die chicks, the diamond girls, the females that stand by their man and get little to no recognition; or no real commitment.
women are KNOWN for being loyal, caring, and nurturing to their man. we have huge hearts, we have crazy emotions, and when we love you this is a TRUE and strong love. there are some women that go above and beyond expectations, the wifey material girls. when our guy is bitching about his workload and how his boss isnt appreciating him, we're there, massaging his back; even when he starts taking out his frustrations on us. when he is sick and incapacitated and basically like a newborn baby, we're there getting that soup wether its homecooked or Campbell's or store bought. when our man is going through tough times and cant afford to take us to the restaurant he promised or the get us the gift we deserve on our anniversary, we're there, taking it for the team.
SO TELL ME WHY, and WHERE guys get off taking all this for granted? You know there are some shady chicks and some girls that are selfish and independent, and will send you to the store to get your own damn medecine. You should be counting your blessings everyday you have a girl there by your side, riding and dying every day for you. all around the world you see the stories of men leaving the women that made them who they are, were with them not in good times but horrible times, and the second they get success they dont need their rocks anymore? there is even a movie, the first wives club, about it. I am outraged at the fact that guys are willing to spend $400 on a phone and cant get their diamond girl some flowers, or bring them their favorite food. Guys wonder why women are so moody! We take that birth control for you, which messes up the internal system, and you're too embarrased to get your girl some tampons? its a DAMN SHAME the amount of work some women do, and they do it cause they love your goofy butt. dont take advantage, because remember those shady girls i mentioned? GUESS HOW THEY GOT THAT WAY. fellas with their girls for over 2 years and dont wanna get their girl a ring to show some commitment, dont wanna do their share of chores, or help cook, or even say thank you........and they wonder why their girl leaves. like beyonce said.... If you like it you shoulda put a ring on it! because trust me, what you dont appreciate, someone else will reciprocate.
even MTV is capitalizing on this, with their new show "Is she really going out with him?" In episode 3 'The hustler douche', I realized I knew that girl! Allie, she was in a modeling contest with me last year and she won 1st place! (I got second). and seeing the way her boyfriend was treating her.....Oh no. he even KNEW she was his ride or die, and after three years of dating wouldnt even propose. hopefully seeing himself on this episode will wake his dumb a UP. hasnt any guy seen the movie 'the break up'? they should, maybe then you would see what happens when you dont appreciate a class A woman.
Im sick and tired of my friends coming to me and telling me how they do all the work, how they go above and beyond for their man...and their man would rather play videogames or obsess over their stupid phones or cars. because pieces of metal are going to be there for you right? and when youre crying over family or work (you know you do dont lie), im sure your phone will let you cry all over it. WRONG phones dont work with tear damage, fellas. im sure your car will laugh at all of your not funny jokes, do your stanky laundry and wont cringe at the smell or stains; and i know your computer will cook you your favorite meal when youve had the worst day at work. of course my girls wont leave because they are blinded by love but not only THAT, they are strong women that dont give up on their men, they stand by them even though they dont deserve it; its just the kind of women they are. i wont get into the trifling fools that do the cheating, the lying, and all that other bull. this is for the aight-decent guys that are just kinda dumb with the girl department. i dont mess with bad guys, neither should any girl.
So the next time you sense your girl being dissapointed, AND YOU KNOW WHEN THAT IS DONT PLAY, go outta your way to give her a hug, a kiss, a thank you, and make it up to her. and when you know your girl is the one, you better let her know and show her she is.
or dont. but dont be mad when you see another dude with your beautiful, smart, funny, loyal diamond girl.
get the point?
ill leave you with this."

5th, 6th, 7th
I've been hella lagging on posting, but here's a quick recap of what has been going on in the past 3 days.
On Thursday the 5th, Joe D, Iris, Lance, Bianca and I, in the four hours we had before dance practice, went to go eat sushi at Toyo Sushi. I've been hella craving and good thing we all decided on that after having jollibee, sisig house, and king of thai as our options, we're hella indecisive. What hella got me were the specials...the maki rolls were only $3-4! Although, it wasn't THAT great as a roll with all the garnishing on it, it was good enough to satisfy. Like the fatasses we are, haha, we saw baskin and robin's and decided to go there for some dessert.
Joe D bought a cone already when all of a sudden Bianca comes up with the ingenious idea of going to lucky's to buy a pint of ice cream that we'd all share. So off we went to lucky's and bought 2 pints of Haagen Daaz's Caramel Cone and White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle. We headed back to campus and into the cafeteria where we got spoons and dug in, hahaha. Thank goodness there was practice to burn that off! (:
On Friday the 5th, I was just hella tired. It was a long week and I had a midterm for critical thinking, which I hella bombed btw. Afterschool Lance, Bianca and I decided to visit the library annex for the first time. I swear our jaws dropped when we got in, hahaha. There were hella tables and computers, and yeah it may sound lame to be excited about that but at school it's very rare to find a peaceful study area with access to computers and books. At the annex there were hella!

my boyfriend still loves me even when i look like this! hahaha.
I just rested when I got home and attempted to start on a shit load of homework that I had to do. One of them happens to be a genealogy project tracing 4 generations of my family. My professor wants it on a piece of construction paper, unfortunately my family just doesn't fit.
On Saturday the 8th, I was happy to see that it was sunny out for once knowing that I had a date with Matt in the city today to make up for our 1 year anniversary on Monday. It's been a while since we've actually gone out. Usually when Matt comes over we're both doing homework or he needs help with Spanish. Usually it rains so we never get to go out, period. Thankfully, the weather was on our side. We first went to powell. First stop? Forever of course (: I circled there for a good while, found some stuff that I really want to buy and though I was hella tempted, I knew better that I should save my money. Honestly, I hate that. Not to sound spoiled or anything, but before everything changed with my family's situation, my sister and I were able to buy things without much hesitation. Obviously, we were conscious money wise, but it really was never a problem. Now money is just too damn tight.
I didn't want to let that get in the way with my date with Matt though because I knew he wanted to buy stuff, but it was rather difficult when we were practically surrounded by clothing stores. We then went to Urban Outfitters and tried on some cute stuff. Now that I think about it, I think I want a fedora now (:

We were getting pretty hungry so we went to haight to go eat at the place we ALWAYS eat at every time we go there...Best of Thai! YUM. We got two kao pad's and thai teas. Too juiced, haha.

We looked around afterwards, and Matt found a shirt at true that he said is hella me. It was a ghetto lookin smurf and on the bottom it said street cred. It was cute! And what's even cuter is how he remembered me saying that I looked like a smurf waaaay back when in one of the first pictures we took before he asked me out. Here's the picture. We look tired and ugly :(

We headed back to powell, looked around some more for hella long!... when we finally made our last stop to Niketown. Matt took a while deciding on some jay's and whether or not he should get it. I swear, I honestly think he takes longer than me in deciding. I told him that it's a nice shoe, that he should get it...the only downside is the price. He's still hella indecisive and regretted not buying them when we were already on BART.
(:On Friday the 5th, I was just hella tired.

Anyways, i've come to realize a lot of things lately, this says it quite well...
"As you mature and begin to shape your path in life, you'll start to understand aspects of your personality more intimately than you did before. You may realize some things about yourself that you weren't aware of in high school. The more you learn about yourself, the more you'll change. People grow together and they grow apart. Even adults will find that, after a period of time, they grow apart from the people with whom they were friends. It is a natural process of growing up."
********
As weird as it to say, it was really nice being home for once. I missed my family, my sister especially. With the time I spend mostly at school now, it was nice to at least help her get ready and pack for her competition in Santa Clara by making her my special chicken sandwiches and taking her to safeway :) Definitely, BLOOD is thicker than water.

3rd
I was so surprised to see that snow was actually on the road earlier this morning by the 16th street exit on 580. There wasn't a lot though, boo ):
My day begins with my stats class and though I ABSOLUTELY HATE that class, i was happy to at least know that Nem's back! We just went over hella stuff that we needed to know for the test this Thursday. I think imma just make a chicheat...there is no way i'm going to remember all that! hhaha. Sorry but i haven't been on top of school this semester, especially with my Communication readings. We had a quiz today and if it weren't for the extra bonus question i would've gotten a 2/5 :X
Lunch was chill. Lance, Iris, Bee, Nem, Joe D and I went to goldilocks to eat and buy some little treats for the Veterans that we would be visiting today on Capp Street. I had some yummy filipino bbq with the sweet sauce and rice. Good food and good company always gets me (:

On the right: Mang Justino, Filipino WWII Veteran
Around 3:30, I headed to Capp Street along with the interns and some general members like me, to visit the Veteranos. A comforting smell of bengay lingered in the air but it suddenly faded away once I saw the living conditions they lived in that they absolutely don't deserve. However, humbled by their hospitality, I sat down in the seat and talked to the Mang Justino. I was both shocked and saddened at all the trials and tribulations he had undergone. From losing his wife not too long ago, having undergone surgery, living here in the states with no relatives whatsoever to receive the little he gets to send back to his children and grandchildren, that I could only imagine his pain. And at that point in the visit, I got teary eyed from his account of not only his life, but of the war and the brutality. I stopped my tears and though some may say that there's a lack of emotion in me for not doing so, I say not crying or showing that sympathy is empowerment. I thought that if I had cried, he would only feel even more saddened at the realization of what he has gone through. I didn't want that, that's the last thing I wanted. By not sheding a tear I was empowered to continue on "grabbing what is given and continue fighting". I learned that you can't be defeated by struggle, and that's what Mang Justino's doing. At the age of 83, he's still strong as ever.
